DDA flat allotment scheme - Is the buzz for real?

Last week, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) invited applications for 5,010 flats up for allotment under the 2008 Housing Scheme. These flats are available in different parts on the city and the prices ranges between Rs 7-77 lakh. These flats are being tagged as ‘affordable’ since they are priced very nominally as compared to the present property prices.

Do such schemes offer some hope to the masses? Is it possible for an average middle-class income user to buy a house in Indian metros, given the present property scenario? Type your answer in the ‘comments’ box.
